So........books. As most of you probably know, I quite enjoy reading! So, being asked to pick my two or three favourite books was quite a challenge. After a lot of thinking I have finally decided on Matched by Ally Condie, The Giver by Lois Lowry and Ends of the Alphabet by Fleur Beale.
Matched is a slightly twisted story that is set in an alternate universe where everything that you do is decided by the Council. What you eat, what you wear and even who you marry. The story centres around Cassia who has just been matched with her best friend, but then, the unthinkable happens, another face appears on the screen. Cassia is torn between following her head and doing what is right for society, or following her heart down a path, no one has ever dared to follow; love.
The Giver was read to the whole class in Term 1. Another dystopian future book, I really enjoyed it. It is set in the future and is all about a 12 year old boy, Jonas who is chosen to be The Reciever of Memory for his village. It is one of the most important jobs you can have. With his importance comes knowledge that drives Jonah to do the unthinkable; run away.
Ends of The Alphabet was passed along the table from Amber, who didn't really enjoy it. I loved it though, Fleur Beale is one of my favourite authours. Any book by her I pick up and read it as fast as I can. I don't even bother to read the blurb! Anyway, this book is about a young girl named Ruby, who, for her whole life has been a doormat to her noisy, chaotic family. This story shows the time in her life that she stopped being a push over and started standing up for herself. It was a fantastic read!
I would recommend these books to anybody who enjoys a good story, with a bot of romance, adventure, humour and sadness. Sound like you?
But, don't take anything I say too seriously, by the end of the week I'll have decided on a new favourite book! So, to help me on my quest of getting a new fave book up here, can you tell me any good books that I should read?
